Achieving a Well Designed Website

Want  to Achieve a Well Designed Website?

Here is a list of questions your designer should be asking you about the ‘look’ and style’ of your website before starting work on it:

Alongside being asked to design websites, we are also often asked to design templates for websites, where a developer will work on the coding behind the site. There are certain questions that need to be asked of a client regarding how the website will look. As every client is different – as is every website – we like to take our time to understand thoroughly our clients’ online needs. Here is the basic list of questions we would ask our clients regarding the graphic design involved in their website:

  • What do you want to say about your business – in one or two lines?
  • Who is your existing and potential market/audience?
  • What do you want your website to achieve for you?
  • Do you have an existing website? If ‘yes’ what do you like and dislike about it?
  • Have you seen any websites that you particularly like?
  • Have you a colour scheme in mind?
  • Have you existing branding – logo, business card, brochures etc? (Please supply samples of these)
  • Does your branding need updating or are you happy with it? (If ‘no’ is the answer then please organise an update of branding before designing the website)
  • Are there particular fonts you would like to use?
  • What elements do you want on your website? Social media icons, call to action, product or other photographs, logos, forms etc?
  • Do you want your homepage to have all of your information to hand or do you want a slider showcase page?
  • Will I be able to update content myself?
  • Will the site be enabled for Google Analytics?
  • How can the SEO be improved?
